Shorewood is positioned at 41 31 6 N 88 12 54 W (41.5181961, -88.2150390). The village is approximately 39 miles (63 km) southwest of Chicago's Loop.

According to the 2010 census, Shorewood has a total region of 7.884 square miles (20.42 km2), of which 7.77 square miles (20.12 km2) (or 98.55%) is territory and 0.114 square miles (0.30 km2) (or 1.45%) is water. The Village of Shorewood was previously known as Troy up until November 27, 1957 when the town was officially incorporated.

The Shorewood Beach Improvement Association first considered incorporation on August 6, 1931.

At a meeting on April 22, 1957, the inhabitants of Troy decided to incorporate as a village, and on November 23, 1957, a vote was held.

However, a Troy, Illinois already existed over in Madison County, so the village was officially retitled Shorewood at that time.

In the village, the populace was spread out with 29.8% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 26.8% from 45 to 64, and 6.1% who were 65 years of age or older.

The median income for a homehold in the village was $89,095.

About 1.1% of families and 2.0% of the populace were below the poverty line, including 0.6% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.
