The history of the tract of territory where what is now Maeystown is situated, began sometime after 1782, when a soldier of the American Revolution, one James Mc - Roberts, staked a claim of 100 acres (Survey 704; Claim 316), he later left the Illinois Territory for Tennessee, where he married Mary Fletcher-Harris, and returned in 1797, adding another 100 acres (0.40 km2) to his holdings.

Mc - Roberts fathered ten children, the eldest, Samuel Mc - Roberts, was the first native-born Illinoisan to serve in the United States Senate.

Maeystown may be said to have begun its expansion as a town in the year 1852, when Jacob Maeys here assembled a sawmill on what had turn into known as Mc - Roberts Meadow, which he purchased in 1848.

The entire village, save for a small strip of territory on the northeast side, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Maeystown Historic District. There were 54 homeholds out of which 35.2% had kids under the age of 18 living with them, 70.4% were married couples living together, 5.6% had a female homeholder with no husband present, and 18.5% were non-families.

In the village, the populace was spread out with 25.0% under the age of 18, 10.8% from 18 to 24, 29.1% from 25 to 44, 18.9% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older.

The median income for a homehold in the village was $40,417, and the median income for a family was $43,750.
